The “Western Province Longboard Association” committee thank “New Balance: South Africa” for ongoing support in 2012.

W. P. Team Trial Dates for S.A. Champs:

1.) 28 – 29 January - See the results here
2.) 25 – 26 February
3.) 31 March – 1 April

Three trials, top 2 results count (Total result is the sum of the two highest % scoring trials)

Entry fee R50.00/trial (19 plus) & R25.00/trial (18 under)


The number of entrants will dictate what divisions surf on which day. Our bulk SMS system will inform competitors where the venue is and divisions being surfed. Mobile numbers that can be contacted are 082 781 4683 or 083 261 9073.

Age group division’s to be contested at the South African Longboarding Championships.
Youth Division is for male and female, 15 years old and younger.
Junior Boys 16 to 18. If you are not 16 on 1st Jan. you are not a Junior.
Open All ages
Master’s 31 to 35. If you are not 31 on 1st Jan. you cannot surf Masters division.
Grand Masters 36 to 40. If you are not 36 on 1st Jan. you are still a Master.
Senior Men 41 to 45. If you are not 41 on 1st Jan. you are still a Grand Master.
Veteran 46 to 50. If you are not 46 on 1st Jan. you are still in the Senior Men.
Super Vet’s 51 to 55. If you are not 51 on 1st Jan. you must still surf in the Vets.
Legend’s 56 to 60. If you are not 56 on 1st Jan. you surf in the Super Vets.
Super Legends 61 and over. You have to be 61 on 1st Jan. to qualify for this age group.
Girl’s 16 to 18. If you are not 16 on 1st Jan. you are still in the youth division.
Ladies Open All ages good enough to compete here.
Ladies 35+ 35+ If you are not 35 on 1st Jan. you do not qualify for this division.


Age groups have been created to keep each category competitive, however, older surfers can surf down divisions against younger age groups if they feel they have what it takes. Younger surfers cannot compete against older divisions for obvious reasons. A youth division surfer can compete in Junior boys or Girls division.

Longboard Criteria: Judges analyze the following major concepts when scoring waves:

• Commitment and degree of difficulty
• Combination of traditional and modern maneuvers
• Innovative and progressive maneuvers
• Variety of maneuvers
• Speed, power and flow.

Scale utilized:
0.0 – 1.9 = Poor
2.0 – 3.9 = Fair
4.0 – 5.9 = Average
6.0 – 7.9 = Good
8.0 – 10.0 = Excellent
